The Strong Chromatic Index of Random Graphs
نویسندگان
چکیده
The strong chromatic index of a graph G, denoted by χs(G), is the minimum number of colors needed to color its edges so that each color class is an induced matching. In this paper we analyze the asymptotic behavior of this parameter in a random graph G(n, p), for two regions of the edge probability p = p(n). For the dense case, where p is a constant, 0 < p < 1, we prove that with high probability χs(G) ≤ (1 + o(1)) 34 np logb n , where b = 1/(1 − p). This improves upon a result of Czygrinow and Nagle [Discrete Math., 281 (2004), pp. 129–136]. For the sparse case, where np < 1 100 √ logn/ log logn, we show that with high probability χs(G) = Δ1(G), where Δ1(G) = max{d(u) + d(v) − 1 : (u, v) ∈ E(G)}. This improves a result of Palka [Australas. J. Combin., 18 (1998), pp. 219–226].

Chromatic Harmonic Indices and Chromatic Harmonic Polynomials of Certain Graphs
In the main this paper introduces the concept of chromatic harmonic polynomials denoted, $H^chi(G,x)$ and chromatic harmonic indices denoted, $H^chi(G)$ of a graph $G$. The new concept is then applied to finding explicit formula for the minimum (maximum) chromatic harmonic polynomials and the minimum (maximum) chromatic harmonic index of certain graphs. It is also applied to split graphs and ce...
متن کاملThe strong chromatic index of C4-free graphs
The strong chromatic index of a graph G is the minimum number of induced matchings which partition E(G). In 1985, Erd} os and Ne set ril conjectured that the strong chromatic index of every graph of maximum degree is at most 5 4 2. In this paper, we use probabilistic method to prove an asymptotically better result for graphs which do not have a cycle of length 4. Also, we show that our bound is...
متن کاملStrong Chromatic Index of Products of Graphs
The strong chromatic index of a graph is the minimum number of colours needed to colour the edges in such a way that each colour class is an induced matching. In this paper, we present bounds for the strong chromatic index of three different products of graphs in terms of the strong chromatic index of each factor. For the Cartesian product of paths, cycles or complete graphs, we derive sharper ...
متن کاملStrong chromatic index of k-degenerate graphs
A strong edge coloring of a graph G is a proper edge coloring in which every color class is an induced matching. The strong chromatic index χs(G) of a graph G is the minimum number of colors in a strong edge coloring of G. In this note, we improve a result by Dębski et al. [Strong chromatic index of sparse graphs, arXiv:1301.1992v1] and show that the strong chromatic index of a k-degenerate gra...
متن کاملStrong chromatic index of graphs: a short survey
A strong edge coloring of a graph G is an edge coloring such that every two adjacent edges or two edges adjacent to a same edge receive two distinct colors; in other words, every path of length three has three distinct colors in G. The strong chromatic index of G, denoted by S G , is the smallest integer k such that G admits a strong edge coloring with k colors. This survey is an brief i...
متن کاملOn the strong chromatic index and maximum induced matching of tree-cographs and permutation graphs
We show that there exist linear-time algorithms that compute the strong chromatic index and a maximum induced matching of treecographs when the decomposition tree is a part of the input. We also show that there exists an efficient algorithm for the strong chromatic index of permutation graphs.
